I hope this answers most of your questions. If not please tell me what else you would like to know.
Who am I?
I am a NCPS accredited counsellor, who works with both adults and children.
Why did I become a therapist?
I have always been interested in counselling and, having worked at a school, I became focused on children's therapy. I started my training as a play therapist at a primary school, counselling from the age of 4 to 11. Things changed when my daughter had mental health problems for 7 years, and I was very much on the other side of the therapist's couch. This gave me an insight in to how mental health not only causes difficulties for the individual but also the affect it can have on the family whether parent, sibling or child. For this reason I finished my training to include adult therapy. I work in Nassau Street with my private clients and also work at a drop in centre with an age range of 11-25, and I find that predominantly it is talking therapy, but for some sitting opposite a stranger at first can be intimidating and drawing or games can relax and help the therapeutic relationship.
Why should you consider working with me?
You do not have to have a diagnosis to receive therapy. Therapy is available and beneficial to everyone. Whether this is to manage daily stress and anxiety, low moods, disrupted sleep or self esteem. As a therapist I can work with some diagnoses but I do not diagnose and I do not prescribe medications.
What type of therapy do I do?
I am an pluralistic therapist, meaning I can work with different forms of therapy, all of which will be client led. Client led simply means we will be working at your pace not mine, we work collaboratively with you setting the tone, and I adjust the therapy to suit your needs. The therapy modalities I use are principally CBT, Person-Centred and Psychodynamic therapy.
Where will we meet?
I am available to meet weekly face-to-face in Nassau Street, London W1, however with busy schedules I can also meet virtually on Teams.
How long are sessions?
Session will be 50 minutes long. Generally we start with 6 appointments but this is negotiable depending upon what work we are doing.
How long does it take to start therapy?
Once you have emailed me, we will first set up an assessment over a free 20 minute call, where we will discuss what it is you would like to get out of therapy and whether we would be a suitable match. If you choose to proceed, I will schedule you in at the first available time slot.
I hope this helps you know what to expect and I very much look forward to working with you,
Camilla
